What Is PhenoSight?

The PhenoSight platform is a group of technologies that combine hardware and software to allow you to capture high-quality digital video data, and, importantly, to make sense of it. We have developed and a range of hardware products that enable high-magnfication digital video to be easily captured (e.g. individual wells in 96-well plates, microscope slides etc) without the need for a microscope. We call these "macroscopes". The positions of the cameras in PhenoSight video macroscopes are robotically controlled on our specially designed X-Y stages, so that you can, for example, set up the system to look at each well in a 96-well plate in succession.

Unlike other systems, all our hardware has been specifically designed and engineered for the life sciences, and each product in the range has been specified for real-world life science uses. That means, you don't pay for extreme precision when you don't need it; and you don't pay for the ability for components to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, when they will only be in active use for a total of a few minutes per day. Of course, at the high-end of the range, we offer you those high-level capabilities. However, the benefit to you is at the entry level, our systems have unparalleled affordability and are compact enough for individual scientists to have personal systems on their own benches. And if you really need a microscope, PhenoSight video systems can easily be connected to a microscope.

Our software provides some key benefits that make life easier for scientists. If you're used to sitting in a darkened room, looking down a microscope, observiing samples that change with time, then PhenoSight could be perfect for you. With PhenoSight, all observations, whether you want to make them in real-time, slow-motion, or time-lapse, are captured on digital video, for you to analyse later at your desk. Our software makes it super-easy to analyse your results manually if you so choose, and to automate some key quantitative analyses using advanced computer vision technology. If you have particularly complex requirements for data analysis, we offer a service to work with you build a customer computer vision solution that will meed your needs.

At the entry level, PhenoSight macroscopes are designed for assay development by individuals or small teams. At the high-end, we offer multi-camera macroscopes designed for high-throughput video screening, along with all the high-end computing hardware infrastructure for managing huge volumes of digital video data, and processing it automatically in a timely manner.
